Your Guide to Teamsly's Location Tracking

An overview of how location tracking works in Teamsly — what's captured, when tracking is active, and how to get started

Teamsly's location tracking gives managers real-time visibility into where their team is during working hours. GPS data is captured at every clock-in, clock-out, and break event, and — when real-time tracking is enabled — Teamsly continuously tracks each employee's location and route while they're on the clock. Tracking stops the moment an employee clocks out and is never active outside of working hours.

Two Types of Location Tracking

Teamsly captures location data in two ways, which can be used independently or together:

  • Clock Event GPS Stamps — Every time an employee clocks in, clocks out, or takes a break, their GPS location is captured and saved to their timecard. This happens automatically whenever the mobile time clock is enabled, with no additional setup required.

  • Real-Time Location & Route Tracking — When enabled, Teamsly continuously tracks an employee's live GPS position and travel route while they're clocked in. Managers can see all clocked-in employees on a live map on the dashboard and view the full route an employee has traveled during any shift.

Geo-Fencing

Geo-fencing is an optional layer that restricts where employees can clock in from. When enabled, an employee must be physically within a defined radius of your location's address to clock in from the mobile app. Employees outside the geo-fence see an error and cannot clock in until they're within range.

What Managers Can See

When real-time tracking is enabled, the manager dashboard includes a Live Status tab showing:

  • A live map with every clocked-in employee's current position

  • A list of all employees showing their clock-in time, current address, job code (if applicable), and status — clocked in, on break, or clocked out

  • The full route an employee has traveled during their shift, viewable by clicking their name

  • Historical routes from previous shifts, filterable by date

When Tracking Is Active

Location tracking in Teamsly is strictly limited to working hours:

  • Tracking starts when an employee clocks in

  • Tracking pauses when an employee takes a break (clock event GPS stamp is still captured)

  • Tracking stops the moment an employee clocks out

  • Tracking is never active when an employee is off the clock

🔒 Employees are informed when location tracking is active. No location data is shared with managers unless the employee is actively clocked in.

Getting Started

To enable location tracking, go to Settings → Time Tracking and toggle on Real-time location & route tracking enabled. Choose which roles to track and save. For geo-fencing, toggle on Geo-fence enabled on the same page and configure your location address and fence radius.

Employees need to grant location permissions on their device for tracking to work. See Setting Up Location Permissions on iOS and Setting Up Location Permissions on Android for step-by-step instructions.
