For Teamsly's location tracking to work on an Android device, employees need to grant the app the correct location permissions. This article walks through the exact steps for Android.
Required Permission: Allow All the Time
Employees in roles with real-time location tracking enabled must set their location permission to Allow all the time. This allows Teamsly to continue tracking location when the app is running in the background during a shift. Without this setting, location updates may stop when the employee locks their phone or switches to another app.
Setting Up Location Access on Android
Open the Settings app on your Android device.
Tap Location (or search "Location" in the settings search bar).
Make sure Location is toggled On.
Tap App permissions.
Find and tap Teamsly.
Select Allow all the time.
Return to the Location settings, tap Improve accuracy, and make sure Wi-Fi scanning and Bluetooth scanning are both enabled.
📍 Steps may vary slightly depending on your Android version and device manufacturer. If you can't find these options, search "Location permissions" in your device's Settings search bar.
If You're Asked at Clock-In
When you tap Clock In for the first time with tracking enabled, Teamsly will prompt you to enable location access. Follow the on-screen prompt to open your device settings. If you skip it, you can set it up manually using the steps above.
Improving Location Accuracy
If your GPS is inaccurate or slow to update on Android, try these steps:
Enable Wi-Fi scanning — Go to Settings → Location → Improve accuracy and turn on Wi-Fi scanning. This improves GPS precision even when you're not connected to a network.
Toggle Location off and on — Tap the Location tile in Quick Settings to turn it off, wait 5 seconds, then turn it back on.
Check for sleeping apps — Go to Settings → Battery → Background usage limits → Sleeping apps and make sure Teamsly isn't listed there.
Disable Battery Saver — Go to Settings → Battery and make sure Battery Saver is off while working.
Step outside — GPS works best with a clear view of the sky.
Restart the device — If GPS still isn't working, restart your phone and try again.
💡 If location still isn't working after following these steps, see Troubleshooting GPS & Location Issues for more solutions.
