For Teamsly's location tracking to work on an iPhone, employees need to grant the app access to their device location. This article walks through the exact steps to set it up correctly.
Required Permission: Always
Employees in roles with real-time location tracking enabled must set their location permission to Always. This allows Teamsly to continue tracking location even when the app is running in the background during a shift. Without this, location updates may stop when the employee locks their phone or switches to another app.
Setting Up Location Access on iPhone
Open the Settings app on your iPhone.
Scroll down and tap Teamsly.
Tap Location.
Select Always.
Make sure Precise Location is toggled on.
📍 Precise Location must be enabled for accurate GPS tracking. Without it, your location may be approximate rather than exact, which can cause inaccurate clock-in stamps and route data.
If You're Asked at Clock-In
When you tap Clock In for the first time with tracking enabled, Teamsly will prompt you to enable location access. Tap Enable Location to open your device settings directly. If you tap Not now, you can set it up manually using the steps above at any time.
Improving Location Accuracy
If your GPS is inaccurate or slow to update, try these steps:
Enable Wi-Fi — Even if you're not connected to a network, having Wi-Fi turned on improves GPS accuracy. Go to Settings → Wi-Fi and toggle it on.
Check Date & Time — Go to Settings → General → Date & Time and make sure Set Automatically is on.
Toggle Location Services — Go to Settings → Privacy & Security → Location Services, turn it off, wait a few seconds, then turn it back on.
Toggle Airplane Mode — Turn Airplane Mode on for 5 seconds, then off. This resets your network connections and can restore GPS signal.
Step outside — GPS works best with a clear view of the sky.
Keep the app open and in the foreground — Do not swipe the app away or force-close it — this stops all background location updates immediately.
