Payroll periods define how your timesheets are grouped and how the date range filters work in the Timesheets section. Setting them up correctly ensures your payroll exports always cover exactly the right dates.
Getting There
Click the gear icon at the bottom of the left navigation to open Settings, then select Time Tracking under the Timesheets group.
Configuring Your Payroll Period
There are three settings that work together to define your payroll periods:
Start of Workweek — The day your workweek begins (e.g., Sunday or Monday). This is the anchor for all weekly overtime and period calculations.
Payroll cycle — How often payroll runs. Options are weekly, bi-weekly (every 2 weeks), semi-monthly (twice a month), or every 4 weeks.
First payroll period begins on — The start date of your very first payroll period. Teamsly uses this to calculate all future period boundaries automatically.
Changes save automatically when you update these fields.
💡 Once your payroll cycle is set, the Timesheets page will show a payroll period dropdown at the top so you can quickly jump between periods without manually entering dates.
⚠️ Changing your payroll cycle or start date after you've already collected timecards can shift which timecards fall within each period. Make any changes before your first pay period if possible, or at a clean period boundary.
Using Payroll Periods in Timesheets
In the Timesheets view, use the date range picker to select a payroll period. Teamsly pre-fills your configured pay periods in the dropdown so you can select the exact period you're preparing payroll for. You can also set a custom start and end date if you need to view a non-standard range.
