Troubleshooting GPS & Location Issues

Solutions to common GPS and location tracking problems in Teamsly — missing location, geo-fence errors, and inaccurate GPS

If location tracking isn't working as expected in Teamsly, this article covers the most common issues and how to fix them. Most problems come down to device settings rather than anything in Teamsly itself.

Location Not Appearing on Clock-In

If no GPS location is captured when clocking in, check the following:

  • Location permission not granted — Go to device Settings and make sure Teamsly has location access set to Always (iOS) or Allow all the time (Android). See Setting Up Location Permissions on iOS or Setting Up Location Permissions on Android for step-by-step instructions.

  • Device Location is turned off — Make sure Location Services (iOS) or Location (Android) is enabled at the device level, not just for Teamsly.

  • Poor GPS signal — If the employee is indoors or in a basement, GPS signal may be too weak. Step outside or near a window and try again.

Can't Clock In Due to Geo-Fence

If an employee is at the right location but still being blocked by the geo-fence:

  • GPS hasn't refreshed yet — Wait 30–60 seconds for the device to get a fresh location. Step outside for better signal.

  • Location permission is "While Using" instead of "Always" — Update the permission to Always (iOS) or Allow all the time (Android) in device Settings.

  • Wi-Fi scanning is off — Enable Wi-Fi scanning in device Location settings to improve GPS accuracy near the boundary.

  • Fence radius is too small — If employees consistently have trouble at a specific part of the workplace, increase the fence radius in Settings → Time Tracking → Geo-fence.

  • Manager override — Managers can clock an employee in manually from the schedule on the web while the issue is being resolved.

Location Is Inaccurate or Off

If the GPS location shown on the timecard or route map is wrong or approximate:

  • iOS: Precise Location is off — Go to Settings → Teamsly → Location and turn on Precise Location.

  • Wi-Fi scanning is disabled — Turn on Wi-Fi (you don't need to connect to a network) to improve GPS reference points.

  • Dense buildings or urban areas — GPS signals can bounce off tall buildings, causing slight inaccuracies. This is a device limitation.

  • Toggle Location Services — Turn Location Services off and back on in device settings to force a fresh GPS fix.

  • Toggle Airplane Mode — On iPhone, turning Airplane Mode on for 5 seconds then off can reset network connections and restore GPS accuracy.

General Steps That Fix Most Issues

  1. Set location permission to Always (iOS) or Allow all the time (Android)

  2. Enable Precise Location on iPhone

  3. Turn on Wi-Fi (scanning mode, no connection needed)

  4. Turn off Battery Saver mode

  5. Step outside for a clear sky view

  6. Restart the device
