Fixing Microphone and Notification Permissions for Calls

How to turn on microphone, notification, and full-screen call permissions on iPhone and Android if you dismissed the permission pop-up, plus fixes for calls that don't ring

Teamsly calls need a few phone permissions to work properly. If you skipped or dismissed a permission pop-up, calls might not ring, might show as a small banner, or the other person might not be able to hear you. This article explains what each permission does and how to turn it back on.

Permissions Calling Uses

  • Microphone — Lets the other person hear you. Without it you can't make calls, and you can't talk on calls you answer.

  • Notifications — Lets incoming calls ring when the Teamsly app is closed or in the background, and lets you see missed-call alerts.

  • Full-screen notifications (Android only) — Lets incoming calls take over the screen like a regular phone call instead of appearing as a small banner.

Teamsly doesn't need Bluetooth, contacts, or phone permissions for calling.

The "Enable your microphone" Pop-Up

The first time you open the app after your company turns on calling (after you've answered the notifications prompt), Teamsly shows Enable your microphone — "Teamsly needs microphone access so you can talk with your team on calls."

  • Tap Continue, then tap Allow (iPhone) or While using the app (Android) when your phone asks.

  • If you tapped Not now, that's fine — Teamsly asks again the next time you make or answer a call.

  • If you tapped Don't Allow on your phone's own prompt, your phone won't ask again. Follow the steps below to turn the microphone on in Settings.

🔒 Your microphone is only used while you're on a call. Teamsly never records your calls.

Microphone Messages You Might See

  • "Microphone required" — Shown when you try to make a call without microphone access.

  • "Microphone is off" — Shown when you answer a call without microphone access: "You won't be able to talk on this call. To take it, open Settings and allow the microphone for Teamsly."

Both messages have an Open Settings button that takes you straight to Teamsly's settings on your phone, where you can turn the microphone on.

Fixing Permissions on iPhone

  1. Open Settings and tap Teamsly.

  2. Tap Notifications and turn on Allow Notifications.

  3. Make sure Lock Screen, Banners, and Sounds are turned on.

Fixing Permissions on Android

Menu names vary a little between phone brands, but the steps are similar.

Microphone

  1. Open your phone's Settings app and tap Apps.

  2. Tap Teamsly, then Permissions.

  3. Tap Microphone and choose Allow only while using the app.

Notifications

  1. Open Settings → Apps → Teamsly.

  2. Tap Notifications and turn on All Teamsly notifications (or Show notifications).

Full-screen calls

On Android 14 and later, incoming calls show as a small banner unless Teamsly is allowed to use full-screen notifications. To fix it:

  1. In the Teamsly app, go to More → Account Settings → Notifications & Alerts.

  2. If you see Allow full-screen calls — "Without this permission, incoming calls appear as a banner instead of a full-screen ring." — tap Open Settings.

  3. Turn on Allow full screen notifications for Teamsly, then go back to the app.

If you don't see Allow full-screen calls on that screen, full-screen calls are already turned on.

Calls Still Not Ringing?

  • Make sure Receive Calls is on — In the app, go to More → Account Settings → Notifications & Alerts and check that Receive Calls is turned on.

  • Stay signed in — Signing out of the Teamsly app stops incoming calls on that phone. Sign back in to start receiving them again.

  • Open the app once — If coworkers see "Hasn't set up calling" next to your name, open the Teamsly app and sign in so your phone is set up for calls.

  • Don't force stop the app (Android) — Swiping Teamsly away from your recent apps is fine, but using Force stop in Settings blocks incoming calls until you open the app again.

  • Check battery settings (Android) — Some phones restrict apps in the background to save battery. If calls only ring when the app is open, open Settings → Apps → Teamsly → Battery and choose Unrestricted (or turn off battery optimization).

  • Check Silent and Do Not Disturb — If your phone is on Silent, Do Not Disturb, or a Focus mode, calls may not make a sound.

  • Update the app — Make sure you have the latest version of Teamsly from the App Store or Google Play.

💬 Other person can't hear you? Check that you haven't tapped Mute during the call, and that Teamsly has microphone access using the steps above.
