Unpaid Time Off is a built-in system policy that covers all employees automatically. It cannot be deleted or reassigned — every employee is eligible to request unpaid time off by default. Unlike PTO and Paid Sick Leave, there is no balance to track or accrue.
Configuring the Advance Notice Requirement
Go to Requests → Time Off Policies and click the pencil icon next to Unpaid Time Off. The only configurable setting is the Advance Notice Requirement:
Set a minimum number of Days or Hours in advance that employees must submit unpaid time off requests.
Leave the field set to 0 to allow requests at any time with no advance notice required.
Click Save when done.
💡 Unpaid time off requests follow the same approval flow as PTO — employees submit a request, and a manager approves or denies it. If the employee has shifts scheduled during the requested period, you'll be prompted to delete or convert those shifts to open shifts when approving.
