Shift types are reusable time blocks with a name, start and end time, and a color — so you can build schedules faster. Instead of entering times from scratch every time you add a shift, you select a shift type and the details fill in automatically. They also make your schedule easy to read at a glance, since each type has its own color.
Common examples: Morning (6:00am–2:00pm), Lunch (9:00am–4:00pm), Dinner (4:00pm–12:00am), Closing (6:00pm–2:00am), BOH Prep (5:00am–10:00am).
Getting There
From the left navigation, click Shifts & Alerts, then select Shift Types. You'll see a list of all your existing shift types with their name, time range, and color.
Creating a Shift Type
Click Create Shift Type in the top right
Enter a Shift Type Name — something short and recognizable, like "Dinner" or "BOH Closing"
Set the Start Time and End Time
Pick a Color to identify this shift type on the schedule
Click Save to create it
💡 Set up all your common shift patterns before building your first schedule. Once they're created, you can select them from a dropdown when adding shifts — no need to enter times manually each time.
Editing or Deleting a Shift Type
Use the pencil icon next to a shift type to update its name, times, or color. Use the trash icon to delete it.
⚠️ Deleting a shift type won't remove shifts already on the schedule that used it — but that shift type won't be available for new shifts going forward.
